The Long Road Home

So here it is, the journey home. After a coach and a flight to Sydney, with a good nights sleep in between, we headed for the airport with our well used passports in hand ready for the last stamp out.
Most will be surprised to know that we were excited to go home. We literally could not wait to get on that plane. Jamie and I have so much to look forward too in England over the next couple of years, and we both had been away so long now that we were well and truly ready to go home. It was time. And it felt good.
Of course it wasn't over yet, due to the 22 hour flight !!!!! + the few days we had in Amsterdam with some very missed friends that had decided to meet us there.
The flight was quite straight forward. We had an hour or so stop in Bangkok to pick up people and refuel, so we just thought the best to avoid as much of the jet lag as possible was to stay awake till after we left there, then consider the journey from Bangkok to England ( another 10 hours or so) to be night time. I actually managed to get about 8 hours sleep, probably due to all the practice I have had now sleeping in an upright position.

If you wondering about the fact I said Bangkok to England, when I said earlier that we were going to Amsterdam, well, we had to go home for the first time in almost two years to catch a connecting flight 4 hours later to get there !!! It was so funny, we didn't tell anyone cause we thought it would be too weird. Hello England ....ooppps , see ya !!

As soon as we got Checked in to our little room, and dropped the bags, I just wanted to flop on the bed and fall fast asleep. It was about 2 in the afternoon, so to us it should of been the middle of the night. Ugghhhh ! Luckily Jamie was in a Sargent Major mood, and got me up and out. We managed to make it till about 8pm when we decided to go back and watch a film, which we managed to maybe see 5 minutes of before sleep took us.

The next morning,I awoke first and jumped in the shower around 9am. All of a sudden I could hear certain voices that I had not heard for a long time, whispering past my door. Then big shouts of joy came bursting from our room, and I rushed out to find Watson, his pretty lady, and Tim all bundled in our room, and Jamie still in his boxers with a big grin on his face. Cuddles all round !
The next few days was then filled with lots of catching up, drinking beers in the park, playing Frisbee in the sand (a Frisbee that I might add that Jamie has been carrying around since Palolem, Goa, in India) eating bacon, eggs and toast and drinking Coffee, Tea and Hot Chocolate with masses of cream ! Absolute Quality !

The last view of Australia. Sydney Airport. Brilliant!

The view from our bedroom window in Amsterdam.

Crazy houses. As you walk by they honestly look like they are about fall on top of you. Someone get me a Spirit Level !!

When we were in the park with our beers, we spotted this subtle spectacle. For ages, all 5 of us couldn't quite work out whether it was two ducks or a two headed fake duck. It was a two headed fake duck in the end. Then we asked ourselves "Why would they put a two headed plastic duck in the pond?". Well the answer surely must be, to confuse idiots like us that spend 30 minutes trying to work out if the two headed duck is real or not ?!!! Plonkers.

We've missed those cheeky smiles !!
